Out of interest, does anyone know anything about a special offer on Macs bought on Friday, because I seem to remember reading that there was a 10% discount on all Macs bought on the day that Tiger was released? Has anyone heard about anything like this?

Apple Bitch notes (http://www.applebitch.com/2011/04/25/mac-os-x-10-7-lion-dvd-appears-on-amazon/) that a new placeholder (http://www.amazon.de/Apple-Mac-OS-X-Lion/dp/B0047CQ0ME) has appeared on Amazon's German site suggesting that Apple will be distributing Mac OS X Lion on DVD when it is released later this year.A listing for the latest version of the Mac operating system, OS X 10.7 Lion, which is due for release this summer, has appeared on the German Amazon website. The significance of the listing is that the OS is apparently being offered on DVD, rather than on the USB thumb drive, upon which Apple had begun to offer the Snow Leopard OS with the purchase of the new MacBook Air models last year.No price or availability date is given on the listing.
Amazon's site is a rather frequent source for product speculation given the company's tendency to post placeholders based on rumor in advance of official release information, and Amazon's German site seems to be one of the most active of Amazon's regional arms in this regard. Consequently, we hesitate to read too much into this speculation and are posting it on Page 2 primarily for interest and discussion at this time.
The distribution mechanism for Mac OS X Lion is certainly up for discussion given recent developments in Apple's hardware and software offerings. With the redesigned MacBook Air lacking an optical drive and proving to be a popular notebook for consumers, Apple's shift to a small USB drive for backup software on the machine has led to speculation that the company could adopt that method entirely for Mac OS X Lion distribution.
In addition, Apple has been delivering developer seeds of Mac OS X Lion via the company's new Mac App Store, which launched in early January. Consequently, it seems likely that Apple will at least offer the option of Mac OS X Lion as a download purchase through that platform.

I would love some sort of flip/clamshell design. I've always hated the single flat slate phone design. I want a phone first not a PDA.

I just don't understand all the speculation over the last 3 years regarding carriers for the iPhone. Get over it, people. If it happens, it happens and Apple will announce it. Until then, ANY carrier is a viable candidate.

i doubt apple with update the MB soon, there just wouldnt be enough distinguishing the MB from the MBP if they both got C2D at the same time, mostl ikely it will be like the mini, it will get a small speed bump.

The u.s had the opportunity to thrive, especially after the cold war, but instead the country decided it would focus itself on wars, and therefore continue to spend more money than it could afford. This worked itself through the economy ( greed - irresponsible loans, derivatives ( which are a total con ) etc which lead to the banking crisis didn't help ), and now the u.s finds itself in the pits.

Ethnicity doesn't say anything other than the color of the persons skin. However, intelligence and stuff are things that actually can affect wether you are qualified or not. Two quite different things, if you ask me.
Except race has been shown to have an effect on intelligence. Ashkenazi Jews are about 1SD above whites, on average (average IQ 100, SD = 15). Blacks typically fare about 1SD lower than whites.
You should start with The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life (http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Curve-Intelligence-Structure-Paperbacks/dp/0684824299/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1302676401&sr=1-1). The authors explain it far better than I could.

I couldn't agree more. I use Audition/Cool Edit Pro at work (radio production) and have yet to find a suitable replacement for it on the Mac. Soundbooth has very limited usability without being able to bounce tracks into an integrated multitrack.
What's sad is that when I saw all the audio apps available for the Mac I thought Audition level functionality would be easy to find. I couldn't have been more wrong. I have tried Soundtrack and Peak, and each are good in their own way, but neither fill the needs of a typical radio station production load. It is very frustrating to me. Ironically, I sent an e-mail to Adobe just the other day requesting that they port Audition...when I saw the headline about Soundbooth, I got really excited until I realized it was a port of Cool Edit 2000. Still, I downloaded it and will test it on my iMac.
Please Adobe...give us Audition!
I use Audition for the same purpose. I preferred the application when it was Cool Edit, I feel Adobe have bloated it out ever so slightly. But beggars can't be choosers - It's an important tool for me.
I've had a go with "SoundBooth", its literally the most basic editing pulled from the original Cool Edit code with a few effects pallets. Defiantly not enough for me. It runs well though, nice-ish interface, not sluggish. I personally wouldn't pay more than 30 - 40 for it, its just too basic.

Hi Redeye,
I have come accross another bug, or it's my dual G5... or Atszyman is spoking me out! Like he's ever gonna catch up with me!
This is the case: I have three folding widgets running for over a week now, no problem in that week. I have three because I want to monitor someone behind me (Atszyman) and my next overtake in front of me. But when I just looked all three widgets where on Atszyman.
I had this problem too. It must be how it stores the data.

Hard not to see the iPad 2 as a great product, even for CU. I'm surprised they didn't find something that would prevent them from recommending it.

How so. I have shot tethered from 5D to Macbook (RAW & JPG). What software are you using?
I have not tried yet with C1Pro but works with canon remote capture software.

50 billion out of a budget of what? A trillion and a bit? What's really ridiculous is all the petty bitching coming out of DC over what amounts to less than 5% of the total. The Titanic is hit and two engineers are fighting over whether or not to turn on one pump.
I think the issue is that included in that 50 billion is money that forms 100% of certain program budgets (e.g. planned parenthood). If it was a horizontal cur (5% off every program budget) then it wouldn't be as huge of an issue.
If the government "shuts down", not much will change. Life will continue.
Unless you're a federal employee, in which case get used to not having a paycheck for a while. Or, like me, are someone who is waiting for the federal government to process some very important paperwork.

... to appease old school folks like yourself. It's off by default. OSX has always been about not having to think about managing the OS and focusing on being productive, creative and enjoying the purpose of the computer. Letting the OS manage system resources is the next logical step.
Apps don't need to be running if they're not being used. If the OS saves all work and opening an app is nearly instantaneous, then there is no difference between a running app or a closed app running some services in the background.
Nonetheless, the ability to turn the lights back on is a temporary transitional ability. It will no doubt be gone in the OS after Lion and only few people clinging to the past will look to turn them on.
Sometimes I like to know whats running and what isn't, at a glance. It's not just "old school folk", I'm relatively new to the Mac scene and its great to see with that light showing me whats running, whether MSN is recieving anything, etc.
I understand Apple's motivation for removing it, but until Lion matures I'm not 100% confident in the OS ensuring that I don't encounter lag when I don't want it to. It's perfect the way it is at the moment. :)

Omg with no laptop updates, I'd like to watch as Apple's laptop sales tumble. Already the Apple Store dropped their MacBook shipping days down to 3-5 days (nobody wants it).
Or they're making more
Can't wait to see Aperture running on a Macbook. Though I'll definitely go into the Regent St Apple Store to see it running before buying it just incase Apple is being a bit optimistic when it says it 'runs' on a Macbook. It barely run on the Mac Pro I was playing around with at the Store today.
Anyone know when the stores update their software? Is it done straight away?

Correct me if I'm wrong...but, did any of you notice on that site that they gave an A+ rating to the Celeron machine and D & C's to the top 8 in the list? If you click on the colored bar for each system then scroll down the page there is a chart to explain the rating. It's a joke. I wouldn't depend on this site at all.

How would one find the answer to this?
Exactly. I'm just pointing out that it is illogical to draw the conclusion the article did about the effects of tax cuts. The fact that the economy has not improved does not prove that tax cuts were bad for the states that implemented them because we do not know how they would have fared without those cuts. And it is simply a matter of balancing the budget. If they're cutting taxes, they just need to cut enough spending to be balanced. If they expected to cut taxes, not cut spending, and have a balanced budget then stupidity, not the tax cuts, are to blame.
The weather sucks big time in Washington state, Texas is much nicer (so I hear). A great many natives of the PNW can become real excretory orifices when they find out you are from California.
I'm turning 30 next month and have resolved to spend 6-9 months of the each year traveling from now on. So I really just need a little studio in a chill town for me to relax from all that traveling. So tax benefits are a huge motive for me. I'm going to take a road trip to check out all the major cities once I get back from China. I don't think Texans will take it too hard on me since I'm quite laissez faire, although I will disagree with them on religious and social issues... I'll probably go where the best food and nightlife is.
