Maybe it would be called the AirMac. That would be an interesting name instead of the MacBook Air.

It costs me nothing to walk into town (about 10 minutes) or bike (5) and pick up a DVD at the municipal library for 1.50. Occasionally I'll copy it to my hard disk if I didn't have the time I thought I would have to watch it and watch it later, then delete it.

Unlike music, you rarely watch a movie twice. Why buy or store these on your hard disk for longer than it takes to view it?

I've not bought a movie since 1995 on VHS. It's was just kind of silly having them litter up your shelves then and your hard disk now.

you don't watch movies more than twice? I feel bad for you...

Do people seriously have that many songs?!!! seriously?!!!

220gb = 50,000 songs?!!!!! That is totally not necessary.

Apple discontinue that dinosaur! It makes you look bad to just have it on your website.

My classic is full, mix of music from my CDs (and old LPs I digitized myself) and a few audio books. I've re ripped my entire CD collection at the highest rate on my Mac but cannot re sync my iPod now as it would overflow like mad. I'd love at least 220 GB. I've wondered about trying to do it myself but decided against it as I've no idea if it would work ... I should google that! ;)

With the exception of about two years, I have been driving manuals for about 20 years. I don't know how much longer I will be driving one, as the selection is getting limited. Also, most of the models I have been considering are auto-only, or only have a manual available on the absolute cheapest models (2012 Ford Focus, for example). Also, I have a nagging back injury that that flairs up every now and then. Driving in very heavy traffic in my current car can cause some pain. A couple of years ago, I got caught in a nasty jam in Dallas and I could barely walk the next day. It sucks.

Edit: Forgot to mention this Cool Story, Bro: To show how much I like manuals, when looking to buy a Mazda6, I hunted for months to find the ever-elusive V6/Manual tranny combo. I was looking at used models, so I was at the mercy of the market. I always seemed to miss them when I would find one. I really wanted the car, so I had finally resigned myself to getting the auto, when I stumbled across one by accident. I was at the dealer to look at at an auto model, when I happened to walk by a hatch with the manual. The thing had literally been rolled out to display that morning. After a cursory test drive, I bought it.

You say this isn't newsworthy???? It's not going to change the world, but it is showcasing a developer taking advantage of the new software and hardware of a new apple product. Why not newsworthy? ... Oooh not enough bitrate! Pathetic

I know that it's not quite fair to compare the two right out of the launch (a baby product versus a mature one), but MS didn't help themselves by setting up this product to compete directly with the iPod. If they had tried to target a different market (maybe primarily video as opposed to music), they might have more success, and let the hype build from there. But the way they seem to be playing it now, they're going to just throw a lot of money into something that will be in Apple's shadow. It'll offer a compelling alternative to some, but will not necessarily convince too many to become switchers. :p

No your missing my first point. Sharing in my mind in this context is the listening but not the distribution of music. Synching is the distribution.

Hence why i was saying my method would allow you to share your library's but not sync them to more than one pod thus eliminating the piracy factor.

We are obviously talking about different things

I guess so. edit: but the original story mentions wireless purchasing. That brings us back to my point(s) as to why this is not likely. end edit

But do you really think that being able to share with one iPod is worth the costs? I already argued that point. If that's the only unique new feature - no go. Even if this came from a more reputable source, I still say there's NO WAY this passes the smell test.

The only way this would do anything for anyone is to drive sales of "shared" songs one pod to the other. Your friend lets you listen, you go home and buy (or buy on your iPod wirelessly but that brings me back to my original point doesn't it?) Word of mouth works just as well if not better and doesn't take away sales from other products, add to the cost of the unit, drain my battery and make Apple look like it's playing catch up.

I agree with this comment. There is no way a developer conference would be used as an announcement for ipods

Question...what was the last open world NFS game? I dont remember the name of it, it was like 5 or 6 years ago, and it was my favorite NFS game.
Most Wanted? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztEx_WhintE) That came out in and was a launch game on the 360. It was quite awesome. I had a lot of fun with that one.

I don't think people are pumping it up at all. I personally think that people who can't drive a standard transmission, are just lazy (and that goes for my mother, and her habit of doing her makeup while driving). People only get autos, because they don't want to have to "inconvenience" themselves with pushing down on the clutch and throwing the car into the next gear; because doing so requires them to stop shoving food down their face, or to get of the damn phone. I also hate to hear people moan about how inconvenient a standard transmission is during stop and go traffic; I mean it's not that bad, and I recently took my standard transmission accord to chicago and drove in stop and go traffic for over two hours, and it was not as annoying as some would make it out to be. People are just too willing to sacrifice the fun of driving for convenience.

This basically confirms that Apple will release the "Mac".

A mini/mid tower with a Conroe, upgradeable video card maybe 1 or 2 open PCI slots, 2 HDD slots, 1 DVD slot and 4 ram slots.

It all seems pretty obvious. What "This" is This? You need to include a link with your references please? We can't read your mind. :confused:http://static.flickr.com/95/231249512_9eccfef387_o.jpg

Oh yeah. Hope they remember the Dual-Link DVI. This is 30" BTW. Could sell for $2999 with a 2.66 GHz Conroe inside. Brilliant idea to perforate the sides like the Pro case thus letting in and out a LOT of air all the time. *

So I guess getting back to reality, the 2GHz Mac Pro is the new "weakling" that will be the only decently powered headless Mac. That is really sad. $2124 stripped to the bone.

We need benchmarks between 2GHz Mac Pro and iMacs and Dual Core PowerMac G5's to see what that really means.

    * Anyone know the source of this image/design? I think it's fantastic.

GM's early 1980s flirtation with diesels produced some disastrously bad designs that left a bad taste in the mouths of consumers and have been cited ever since as a factor, though it can be called into question whether this is really germane anymore. I think the continued impact of the Olds diesel debacle is overstated.

The lesson everyone learned that day is you don't make a diesel engine from a gasoline Small Block V8.

While technically correct, you should provide context.

While SSDs DO have a finite number of write available, an SSD that's 256 GB (a modest drive size) with 10,000 writes = 2,560,000 GB of writing capacity (or 2.56 * 10^6 ;))

That means you could write 100 GB of data PER DAY for slightly over 70 YEARS!

Feel free to be amazed. :D

That is amazing. Thanks for putting that whole issue into context. I imagine that, all things considered, some SSDs might even last longer than traditional hard drives. How if we can just bring the price down! :-)

It is amazing how limited in vision some people are...

Seriously people stuck with this idea that the future of gaming is going to be non-portable systems with game controllers forever are going to be very disappointed in the future.

Ultimately gesture based movements and other mechanisms will be used for gaming, not a freaking glorified joystick. It is silly to believe otherwise.

Again people saying you couldn't play with a touchscreen device without looking at it have no imagination or understanding. Definately within two years you will be shown to be horribly wrong on this point.

You keep believing the future of gaming is going to remain in the hands of traditional 8 year console development cycles... It is not going to happen.

It would be like saying you can't play any real game on a console, you need a pc for it. I certainly can do much more in terms of controlling and playing a game on a computer than I can do with any console controller.

You really are deluded aren't you? You need to be REALISTIC about your expectations. You want to have a bet in this?

I'm calling BS right now - there will always be a place for pads/sticks/mouse/keyboard it gives a vastly better tactile experience than a touchscreen. Touch gaming will improve, I will agree, but the majority of core gamers won't be playing core games on the device.

Are you a gamer? Any gamer worth their salt is very much aware that the norm was a new gen every 5 years, not 8. But yeah, I'dsay we are probably looking at a 6/7 year cycle right now.

Anyhoo, I digress. I'm still calling BS. yeah, I'm sure mobile gaming will improve, but it' not going to replace consoles or PC's for core gamers.

I assume that's what you meant. Because we've seen touchscreen devices advance by leaps and bounds since June 2007. In two years' time it will very likely be an entirely new ballgame with such devices being a dominant force in tech, including gaming.

This little demo is just barely scratching the surface.

Really? Dominant as in more units out there or where it's a lead platform for development?

I mean, you could say that android has the mobile touch screen market zipped up, but we both know that's because there's so many different handset out there.... Yeah there will be a load out there, but it will never be the main cash cow for games developers - the money is in consoles and to a much lesser extent now, PC gaming.

You're sure about that? Considering the next Xbox isn't due for release till about 2015, and the PS4 probably later, and I'm pretty sure those systems will ship with controllers. The Kinect being an optional extra.

And I seriously doubt the iPad will could be seen as a serious competitor to Games Consoles and PC gaming, in the same way my calculator is a competitor to my iPhone because it performs a same function, better than my iPhone does.

you think? I suspect we'll see an announcement next year and a release in 2013 actually for the 360, the PS4 will probably be 2015. The 'WIIHD" or whatever it' called might be announced this year.........

    The Future of video games?

In the future, your controller will cost 400, require a 10ft HDMI cable, a 25 adapter, and have the graphics of a PS2.
