Is it a political ploy - Yes
    Is it necessary - No

How does one respond to this poll? Both answers are correct and/or wrong.

(edit) A closer reading seems to be that the question is only about necessity.

I plan on running Windows via VMWare or Parallels on my MBP and I heard that Windows 7 requires more CPU to virtualize, I am just wondering if it's true, and if so, is it significant?

I will be running the virtualization probably constantly so I want to avoid anything that might slow down OSX. I hear 7 is the best choice for Boot Camp though, so I'm torn.

Any insight would be appreciated :)

Use XP SP3, if possible, because it runs fine with just 512 MB RAM! W7 requires at least 1 GB RAM, and runs fine with 2 GB RAM. The CPU-usage is low, in both cases: 5-15 percent on a 2.8 GHz Core2Duo, if you work just within the Windows Explorer, and < 5 percent if you do nothing within the Windows VM. VMware has optimized the VMware Tools (a collection of "invisible" drivers within the VM) for Windows, so Windows machines require only small amounts of CPU power.

Moving across iTunes was far harder. Reformatting one 1TB Hard Drive to be used on the Mac then copying across 200GB of data from an NTFS drive to the new one.
    ...
(it's ok, I really want to go through and 3 star EVERY SINGLE Angry Birds level all over again. Grrrr).
Someone posted this link in another thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/firstworldproblems/

Now everytime someone makes a comment like OP I think about it and chuckle.

My mom just gave me her old 3G iPhone. I have no intention of using it as a phone, but would like to use some of the apps available to filmmakers. Having never really looked into the iPhone, I'm not really aware what is out there but thought folks here might have some good recommendations.

I work as a camera assistant, production manager and a wear a couple different hats on set, so anything that applies to production could be right up my alley.

I've seen a few depth of field calculators already and a couple apps to assist with cg, but would love any and all opinions.

    Thanks.

Remember you're talking about the low end of the Mac graphics lineup. Most of the better games require a lot of power that low end video solutions don't have. I bought a G4 tower that came with a Rage 128 Pro 16mb graphics card that couldn't play games for crap. That was the low end back when this machine was new. I have a Radeon 9700 in there now and games run a lot better. Unfortunately, the mini can't be upgraded, so you're stuck with what you have. Be sure you read the system requirements on any game before you buy it in the future as it may not run adequately, if at all, on your machine. If gaming is your goal, you need a machine with a better graphics card in the future. My brother has a 24" iMac with the 7300GT graphics card and that's not even high end for games and graphics work although it does work well enough.

I have the Spyder2 Pro Suite (which includes the print calibration).
Spent under $199, I think the Spyder3 foes for around $160 US these days.

Works perfectly. I do high end, pre-press, direct to plate stuff. Monitor matches proofs. Nuff said. Easy quick, painless.

The print calibration was a muddle for me, and never quite worked, at least for my Epson tabloid printer. The Canon Pro 9000 Mark III prints perfectly to match my screen and proofs with little fuss, so I haven't tried again with the print calibration.
    cheers,
    michael

Well, I want to buy a warranty for my MacBook Air and I've seen a lot of people say good things about AppleCare and Squaretrade warranties, but I don't know which is the better buy. Squaretrade's warranty covers accidental damage which is huge while AppleCare does not. AppleCare on the other hand extends my current warranty to 3 years and gives me 3 years of phone support. Squaretrade is $159 for a 1 year warranty, and $239 for 2 years. Apple is $249 for 3 years and no accidental damage.

Which would you say is the better buy? I dont know anything really about Squaretrade, but it seems like accidental damage being covered would come with a catch.

Personal stories from anyone that has used Squaretrade in the past would be very helpful.

If you can hold out, I would wait until Apple finally phases out C2D from its lineup and goes with something a little more current, which should be in a couple of months.

Whenever the MacBook and MacBook Pro 13 switchover to Sandy Bride, I would expect the Mac Mini to follow.

Believe me, Apple is not going to commit credit card fraud. Not really worried about fraud or anything; I just thought there might be a charge other than tax.

Depending on the website, this app would probably be denied.

Look at a site like Facebook. Because they are huge and practically everybody has an account there, they allowed that app through. At the same time, I created an app for users of my company's website. Because we are small time (relative to something like FB), my company's app was denied by Apple, due to not enough appeal to a wide enough user base. Part of this was also due to the fact that the app was practically useless without a user having an account on our website.

    Thanks!

I found out if I changed the width of the divs it would look correct in IE, but in nothing else, and I do know how to make separate stylesheet files for different browser, but I investigated further.

The way I fixed it was under a different tutorial on that site. (http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/floatIndent.html) Basically there's a bug in IE that makes divs with "float:left;" double there margin value. There is a simple workaround, however. Just add "'display:inline;" in the css under the div with the float in it. Seems to have worked for me.

If anything sees anything blatantly wrong with my site, or can think of a better way to do anything, let me know.

Hey, just wondering what I could maybe get for my PC. It still works great and is plenty fast, the truth is I wanna save up for my first mac! It has a 2.4ghz pentium 4 processor and 1.25 gb of RAM and an 80 gb hard drive and you can definitely add some more space. I am not sure what kind of video card it has, but I know it is a fairly good one because I had a friend install a new one so I could play some games. Anyways, thanks for looking.

Also comes with Kensington keyboard, mouse and the Dell 20" display. All very nice!
